DIRECTOR
Terry John ConverseDIRECTOR:
Dr. Terry Converse holds an M.F.A. in directing from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in theatre arts from the University of California at Los Angeles. Specializing in the teaching of directing at Washington State University (USA), he is the author of Directing For The Stage: A Workshop Guide Of Creative Exercises And Projects (Meriwether 1995); this text is the only exercise-driven training guide on the market, providing a progressive series of practical, challenging and eye-opening exercises.
Dr. Converse came to Kochi, India on a Fulbright Grant to work with Lokadharmi Theatre in 2012. During his Fulbright he conducted an extensive, four-month series of mask acting workshops with Lokadharmi Theatre that culminated in two major, masked-based productions. Dr. Converse believes that more than any other approach, mask work helps to jump-start and sustain the stylistic imagination of actors and directors.
In 2014, he became the resident director of the newly formed Phoenix World Theatre, headed by Charu Narayanan. The first production he directed at Phoenix World Theatre was Girish Karnad’s Naga Mandala which was selected by the Sangeet Natak Akademie to tour 9 Kerala cities.
CINEMATOGRAPHER
KalyannMy training includes a Drawing Diploma (S.S.L.C) AND a Diploma in Photography (K.G.T.E.). As a senior cameraman, I have worked for Cee Dee Digital, Jeevan TV, Wevindia 123.com, H News, and Ken TV. My freelance experience includes working as an Assistant Director for the film Chakram and Assistant Cameraman and still photographer for Vathsalyam. Advertisement films include Solar Battery Charger, Rajadhani Jewellery, Cee Dee Digital Campus, and Joy Alukkas to name just a few. Stage programs where I functioned as a Cameraman and stage lighting include Rangoli—Surya T.V, Seematti—Celebration of 100 years, and the Miss Jerk Contest (2009 & 2010). I did Album camera and direction work for Onapattukal & Devotional songs with music director Sunny Stephen. I also did album work for Autograph with director Lijo Jose Palleissery. As cinematographer for Coming Clean, I used a lot of gimbal shots, which worked perfectly for the flow and intensity of this fast-paced film.
Set Construction
Bhanuvajanan T.KSince 1984, I have been actively engaged in theatre. In addition to acting in many different plays, I have considerable experience in scene design, properties, and mask-making.
My set construction work includes Nandhankadha (1999), Media (2002), Ubroy (2005), Karnabharam (2005), Elephant Man (2013), and Kalinadakam (2017).
During the last twelve years, my acting work has included Daivathottam, Coming Clean, Pattabakki, Dropadi, Mariyam, Sabhalamee Yathra, and Agnishikham.
I pride myself in being able to creatively adjust to the demands of many different theatre and film projects. My recent set construction work with Coming Clean is a good example of where I had to take an ordinary room and turn in into a fancy executive office, complete with a multiple access desk where David Brown III could seal himself away from everyone, but at a moments notice could enter into the rest of the office from either the left or right side of the desk. Recently under Charu Chinmai, I have been trained as a Kalarippayattu artist.
