About Unexpected Joy by Bill Russell, Lyrics Bill Russell, Music Janet Hood

New Jersey Premiere

In modern day Cape Cod, Joy , a baby boomer and proud hippie, is holding a memorial concert for the other half of her popular musical duo, Jump and Joy. When her tightly wound, conservative daughter and her sweet, rebellious granddaughter arrive from Oklahoma, sparks fly as one family seeks to find the common ground in their different values, dreams, and goals. A heartfelt and hilarious story that celebrates diversity and acceptance, Unexpected Joy weaves folk-rock, pop, and blues in bringing together a family that hasn't experience true joy in decades.

Old Library Theatre

The Old Library Theatre  (OLT) , Fair Lawn Recreation Department's resident theatre company, is a community theatre organization located in Bergen County, NJ. We want to acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of the Lenape, the indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands.

Old Library Theatre was started in 1967 in Fair Lawn by a handful of dreamers who wanted to make the joy of theatre performance available to everyone. The original theatre was on River Road but the company relocated to the George Frey Center for Performing Arts in the Fair Lawn Community Center in 2006. Now in our 53rd season, we aim to continue the tradition of providing quality community entertainment at an affordable cost.
