About Noble Black Box Evening of One Act Plays 2022

We are excited to bring three one act plays to you this February!

  1. The Importance of Being Earnest (in 30 minutes) by Oscar Wilde and adapted by Jason Pizzarello
Directed by Serena Lockhart (Noble High School Alum)

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde is an extravagant comedy of love and deception. Set in Victorian England, it follows the story of Jack Worthing, a seemingly honest man, and Algernon Moncreiff, a carefree young man. Both bachelors create an alter ego named “Earnest” to escape their lives for different reasons. They aim to woo two women, who both believe their names to be Earnest. This mistake of identity leads our couples down a path of amusing trouble.

  2. I Am Angel by Alaska Reece Vance
                    Directed by Katie Juster

I Am Angel, written by Alaska Reece Vance, tells the story of high-schooler Angel, and gives the audience a look into the inner-workings of her mind...and it's a complicated place. As Angel navigates relationships with her friends, her mom, and her crushes - she learns more about being her authentic self. In a show that is meant to be performed on a black box stage, performers bring the beauty, fear, and excitement of the human mind to life on stage.

  3. My Name is Asher Lev  from the novel by Chaim Potok and adapted by Kelli Leigh-Ann Connors
                     Directed by Kelli Leigh-Ann Connors

MY NAME IS ASHER LEV follows the journey of a young Jewish painter in the 1950’s who is torn between his Hassidic upbringing and his desperate need to fulfill his artistic promise. When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community, young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith. This stirring adaptation on a modern classic presents a heartbreaking and triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist.

Asher Lev” will also be travelling to the Maine State One Act Festival in March.

Noble High School Theater Department

The Noble High School Theater Department is lucky enough to have terrific financial and administrative support that gets better every year. It has allowed us to build a full school year of programming that begins with a fall musical, continues with an evening of one act plays and culminates in a spring musical. Even during the previous school year with the pandemic canceling programs all over the country, Noble was able to produce a full season of theater completely remotely using the “On the Stage” platform that also hosts this website.

This year we kicked off our return to live theater with Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella Enchanted. Next up is our “Noble Black Box Evening of One Acts” in February and in the spring we will bring you “Macabaret” the musical, directed by Noble Alum Autumn Rivas with musical direction by Kathy Fink.
