Only once in our 23-year history has the Drama Experience ever solicited donations from its alumni and families (in 2004, to purchase our first set of stage lights). The Metcalf PTO's generosity was also instrumental in accelerating our growth. However, our mindset has always been that our ticket-sales are, in fact, our twice-a-year fundraisers.
Even so, Drama families and alumni have always been generous with their transportation, their food, and their time. Some have opted to pay above-and-beyond their own participation fees; others have asked us to “keep the change” when purchasing tickets or concessions.
As we continue the transition from Metcalf to Nicollet--updating and adapting to our new space--as well as adding live-streaming and up-keeping our sound and lighting tech, our needs have evolved, and so must our means of providing these opportunities.
Offering a program unlike any other requires uncommon commitment and consistent support. We have never turned away a student whose family could not pay the participation fee. Since Lauren Fechner first crafted our Drama Experience logo, our t-shirts have gone to every student regardless of their family's finances.
Your donations directly benefit our students -- providing scholarships for fees, ensuring every student can proudly sport their Drama shirts, and making it possible for junior-high-then, now-middle-school actors and crew access to theatre-tech that creates envy even among adult companies.
