About SCF Theatre Presents They Promised Her the Moon

Laurel Ollstein's They Promised Her the Moon

Directed by Amanda Schlachter

The first American woman to test for space flight, Jerrie Cobb steps into an isolation tank for a record-breaking nine hours as her memories unfold before her, from learning to fly a plane as a child in Oklahoma to testifying in Congressional hearings about the under-the-radar, all-female Mercury 13 space program. They Promised Her The Moon is a compelling drama about the challenges of sisterhood and fighting for the greater good, based on a true story.

Whether you want to pursue a career in the arts or just enjoy them, the SCF Theatre Program has a place for you! With auditions open to all, there are many benefits to joining the program.

State College of Florida has had an active, vibrant theatre program since 1965. Students have opportunities in both performance and technical areas of theatre. Both students planning a career in theatre or who simply enjoy theatre are welcome and encouraged to participate as are community members. With auditions open to everyone, SCF is the region’s resource for theatre education and community enrichment.

Four productions take place annually, including comedies, dramas, mysteries and more. All shows take place in the David S. & Anne V. Howard Studio Theatre located at SCF Bradenton. Staged by professional directors, who also serve as full-time and adjunct faculty, students benefit from learning and performing in a state-of-the-art venue.
