About The Nit Wits

THE NIT WITS

By Glenn Hughes

The plot centers around Tommy Winter, a college student who has to earn money quickly if he wants to go back to school. In his college psych class, Tommy learned that truly insane people don’t know they’re crazy—and that if someone thinks he’s crazy, then that’s a definite sign that he isn’t.

Armed with a little bit of knowledge (often a dangerous thing!), Tommy poses as a psychologist and runs an ad in the paper saying he can help people who fear they’re losing their minds. Before he knows it, his “office” is swamped with some of the looniest characters imaginable!

There’s Miss Dinwiddie, the spinster who can’t resist the urge to embrace any man in sight; Bert Baxter, a working man who has an unhealthy obsession with guns and knives; TT Trumbull, an elderly gentleman who believes he is losing each of his senses; Maude Middleton, a brassy woman who feels compelled to jump off things; Sally Jean Gould, a dazzling beauty who believes men are following her; Milton Gear, a poet who has been brooding too much; and Henry and Madeline Short, an insanely jealous husband and his flirtatious wife. It takes all of Tommy’s ingenuity and the help of his friends to keep things under control once this parade of nitwits comes rolling in!
