Opera's most infamous wild woman, Carmen, turns momma's boy Don José into a fugitive.  Then she dumps him for a handsome bullfighter.  Carmen was a woman ahead of her time.  The 1875 premiere of Bizet's masterwork sent shockwaves through decent society who were unaccustomed to independent, honest, and uncompromising heroines.  She also sens shock waves through the young soldier Don José, who is driven to murder by her flirtation, passion and manipulation.
