About Kin

"Anna, an Ivy League poetry scholar, and Sean, an Irish personal trainer, hardly seemed destined for one another But as their web of disparate family and friends crosses great distances - psychologically and geographically - an unlikely new family is formed."

WHY KIN? WHY NOW?

  • Kin is an ensemble piece that speaks to the very human need for connection. It is also a love story for the 21st century, a reflection on the community we create, and sheds light on how our bonds ebb and flow through time and place.
  • Bathsheba Doran, who wrote Kin, is a queer female playwright. DID YOU KNOW: As of 2019, only 31% of plays produced by significant non-profit theater companies nationwide were written by female playwrights. For Broadway-- 13%! For queer playwright representation, we found no current published statistics on this issue.
  • This is a story for modern times and we believe that its casting should reflect the current landscape of contemporary society. As such, this production showcases a cast representing diverse cultural backgrounds and identities.

*“Kin” is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service imprint. (www.dramatists.com)

**Playwrights Horizons, Inc., New York City, produced the world premiere of KIN Off-Broadway in 2011.

Making Our Space Theatre Co.

ABOUT MAKING OUR SPACE

A non-profit backed theatre company dedicated to creating equitable, communal spaces and sustainable entryways into this creative art for all theatre artists dedicated to their craft.

OUR MISSION:

Founded for actors and by actors in 2023, our mission is to cultivate a diversified community of experienced theater artists, whether emerging or established, who possess collaborative spirits and uphold the highest standards of excellence. We seek to create a platform for these artists, where:

  • their talents are uniquely presented in communal and affordable showcases for industry professionals
  • their skillsets are honed through our classes and workshops
  • their contributions are an integral part of the MOS ensemble, where they have the opportunity to participate in our full scale productions

Alongside expanding our artistic community, we strive to create a home for new and underproduced plays, original performances, and works from playwrights of underrepresented communities, with the goal of strengthening the kinship between talent, industry professionals, and NYC theatre audiences.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

"An exciting new player on the scene! While other showcases allow any actor who can afford it to participate, this company thoroughly screens their prospective talent and is committed to bringing in skilled actors who are also kind and hard-working people– I know this because I now represent a handful of them! Additionally, their dedication to accessibility, equity and authenticity within this industry is apparent in everything they do. I consider myself a fan and will continue to support this company and attend their events!”

-Barbara Schulman, Talent Manager, Oxford Talent Management

"Thank you so much for demolishing the gatekeeping model of this industry through this showcase. I'm so in awe of how you champion others and have created a safe and fun environment for everyone to uplift each other. Cannot emphasize my gratitude for the MOS squad enough. I hope I can pay it forward ASAP!"

-Kim Ivy Fuller, signed with Volition Entertainment
