About Just So Stories

Based on the beloved tales by Rudyard Kipling, Just So Stories: The Play brings to life the whimsical world of Just So Stories in a vibrant, theatrical adventure for audiences of all ages.

Through playful storytelling, colorful characters, and imaginative staging, the show explores fantastical origin stories that answer questions like: How did the elephant get its trunk? How did the camel get its hump? And how did the leopard get its spots?

Filled with humor, heart, and creativity, Just So Stories: The Play celebrates curiosity, courage, and the power of imagination, reminding us that sometimes the most magical explanations are the ones told “just so."

Mainstage Center for the Arts

Mainstage Center for the Arts provides a vibrant, welcoming environment where youth and adults use the performing arts for personal growth, creative expression, and community connection, enriching the cultural life of South Jersey.

We envision a future where:

  • Creative expression is a fundamental part of education.
  • The performing arts inspire and bring together our community.
  • Everyone has the opportunity to engage with the arts as participants, audiences, or professionals.
  • Mainstage is recognized as a leading hub for artistic programs and services.

Founded in 1989 by Edward P. Fiscella, Jr., Mainstage began as a summer theater program at Glen Landing Middle School. Its early success led to year-round programming, nonprofit incorporation in 1994, and a rebrand in 1997. Without a dedicated theater space, Mainstage built partnerships across the region to provide arts education and performances.

Today, Mainstage serves more than 30,000 people annually and directly reaches over 1,200 children through classes and workshops. As one of South Jersey’s premier performing arts centers, we are supported by grants, sponsorships, and contributions, including support from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Join us in celebrating creativity, expression, and the transformative power of the arts at Mainstage.
