The Birds premiered at The Gate Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival, on September 29, 2009. Directed by Conor McPherson, the production featured Sinéad Cusack, Denise Gough, Ciarán Hinds and Owen Roe. The play made its American premiere at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 25, 2012. Directed by Henry Wishcamper, the Guthrie production featured J.C. Cutler, Summer Hagan, Angela Timberman and Stephen Yakam.
