J.R. Tucker High School

J.R. Tucker High School's Shoestring Players have been under the direction of Lisa Dyer since 2005.  In that time, the Shoestring Players have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival four times, have performed at the Virginia Theatre Association Conference for the past two decades, and have won awards for outstanding performances, student-direction, and design through VTA and VHSL as well as AHSTF.

Performing arts is so important to high school students, as it teaches students real-world skills like: problem-solving, grit, self-efficacy, and delayed gratification.

Providing students with a creative and constructive outlet for their gifts is of the utmost importance in public education today, and theatre covers so much ground and provides so many opportunities for students to learn, excel, challenge themselves, and grow as humans. It's the most incredible part of so many students' lives!
