About Grease: School Version
Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys’ and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night” and “Alone at the Drive-In Movie,” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals, along with innumerable school and community productions, place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals.
Grease: School Version retains the fun-loving spirit and immortal songs of the blockbuster show, but removes any profanity, lewd behavior, and Rizzo’s pregnancy scare. The song “There Are Worse Things I Could Do” is also deleted from this edition. Grease: School Version is approximately 15 minutes shorter than the standard version of Grease.
Hometown Arts Troupe
Hometown Arts Troupe is a musical theater program that originated in 2017. Initially designed for homeschooled students ages 8-18, students have the opportunity to attend a 12 week workshop that ends in a full musical production. Over the years, HAT has expanded to offer summer camp programs for all students, classes, and now a community theater program for all ages. We provide the chance to experience theater using mics, props, amazing sets, costumes, and stage makeup! Our philosophy is to provide a nurturing environment where both talents and friendships can blossom! HAT performances are held at the WCCC Science Hall Theater in Youngwood.
