About Remnants by Orange Grove Dance
Remnants takes audiences on a mytho-poetic journey that physically conjures up the inexhaustible burning hope of the human spirit. What does it mean to start over? What are the things we carry? What survives within us? What is left behind?
Remnants is part 2 of the 4 Recurring Dreams Tetralogy; a series of evening length dances that explore the personal dreams and mythopoetic images of one family’s migration from Cuba in 1980. "How do you prepare in twenty minutes to leave your home forever? What do you hold one last time?"
"This piece speaks to the recurring dreams that tear through our homes awakening us from our sleep. Not necessarily nightmares but dreams, vivid ones. We can always find the taste in our mouths and the smell in our lungs for hours afterwards. These dreams are our bridge to the stories that we have been told since we were young and the places we’ve never touched."
The work exists as a hallmark of OGD's virtuosic and athletic choreography as well as the company's evocative multimedia design. Evoking surreal performance landscapes, 4 Recurring Dreams features performer operated designs through sophisticated sensor technology, lighting, and digital-media interaction.
