Step aboard the S.S. American for a dazzling voyage of tap-dancing, mistaken identities, outrageous disguises, and pure Broadway joy! Our high school production of the 2022 revision of Anything Goes brings Cole Porter’s iconic musical comedy to life with a fresh, fast-paced script, big laughs, and show-stopping musical numbers.

Anything Goes is set aboard a luxury ocean liner sailing from New York to London in the 1930s. The story centers on Billy Crocker, a young man who stows away on the ship after realizing the woman he loves, Hope Harcourt, is sailing away engaged to someone else. Once on board, Billy gets tangled in a whirlwind of mistaken identities, disguises, and outrageous schemes as he tries to win Hope’s heart.

Also on the ship is Reno Sweeney, a bold, witty nightclub singer who becomes an unexpected ally in Billy’s plans. Adding to the chaos is Moonface Martin, a comically incompetent gangster posing as a clergyman, along with his equally unpredictable partner. As the voyage continues, characters are constantly pretending to be someone they’re not, alliances shift, romances overlap, and everything escalates into hilarious confusion!

Hawthorne High School's Drama Department is an after-school activity open to all HHS students located in Hawthorne, NJ.  

The HHS Drama program continues to produce up to 2 performances per academic year, typically one play and one musical. We are all so excited to be on stage and bringing the magic of theater to audiences in both the fall and the spring. 

We continue the HHS Bears tradition of excellence and welcome new faces for on the stage, working as part of our crew, or taking greater responsibilities as one of our many show managers. What makes our program significantly unique is that students are trained in all aspects of production to truly make each performance on stage entirely their own.

Our mission is to foster musical and performance growth, inspire confidence and courage, promote creativity, and invoke passion for the performing arts and its many disciplines.  We seek to uplift students while helping them grow a love and appreciation for the arts and different outlets of expression.
