Puffs Directors

Directors Note

This is my third time directing the school play and I am honored to be bringing this story alive on the Glen Cove stage with my co-director, Valerie Stazzone. The students and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure everyone's success while putting together this show. Throughout the last few months, I have seen how dedicated the Glen Cove Community is to the theater program.

When we chose Puffs we wanted to do a school play that would get students involved. When we found this comedy inspired by a super popular book series that revolves around a young boy named Harry, we knew this was the show. The show drew in a crowd to our first meeting and we ended up having over 20 students audition, creating the largest fall production cast this school has seen in a really long time.

The story follows our main characters Wayne, Oliver and Megan and their journey over the course of seven years at a certain wizard school. It will make you laugh while embodying a deeper meaning. This play shows that everyone in life is important and the center of their own story.

I would like to personally thank my co-director Valerie Stazzone for directing her first show. She did a wonderful job and caught on quickly. Our financial director, Liana Caesar-Quaye, for taking care of ticket sales and our multiple purchases. The Glen Cove High School Custodial and Grounds staff for building our set and making sure we had everything we needed. The library and office staff for assisting with program making and cast photos. Ms. Rant in the main office with her help with everything. Our Administration for supporting us throughout the whole process. Our actors/actresses and their families for dealing with late rehearsals and Saturday rehearsals. Our seniors for the dedication to this program over the last four years. This show would not have been possible without you all.

The entire cast of Puffs is extremely grateful to have everyone here to see our show, so please sit back and enjoy the show!

Sincerely,

Laura Makula

Director

This is my first year directing the fall play and I am incredibly honored to be working side-by-side with my co-director, Laura Makula. We chose the play, Puffs, because we felt that the themes of belonging, friendship, acceptance, self-discovery, and perseverance were relatable and the journey of the “unsung hero” would warm the hearts of the audience. Who doesn’t love the underdog, right?

Puffs is a play that takes place at a “certain school of magic” that we all know and love. It is a parody of the popular series and is told from the perspective of its least celebrated house. Instead of focusing on the “cursed child” that is the focus of the popular series, the play is centered around the protagonist, Wayne Hopkins, an ordinary boy who realizes his true potential.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Laura Makula for teaching me everything that she knows. I truly appreciate her ongoing patience, guidance and support as I transitioned into this role. Liana Caesar-Quaye, our financial director, for handling ticket sales and all financial purchases. The Glen Cove High School Custodial and Grounds staff for building our set. The GCHS administration for their ongoing support. Our Masquers officers, Elle Woska, Luis Barrera, Elijah Goldstein and Michael Renga for their leadership and dedication on and off stage. The talented, dedicated and passionate actors/actresses of Puffs who worked incredibly hard to bring this story to life. Thank you for welcoming me into the theater community. This has been a memorable and rewarding experience.

Sincerely,

Valerie Stazzone
