About Mask-Making Workshops: Growing in the Silence

Step into a space of reflection and creativity with music influenced mask-making workshops, a unique collaboration between Fuse Theatre and artists Alex and Maya Valdivia. These workshops are part of the larger "Growing in the Silence" project, which invites participants to explore the inner growth that occurs when we silence the outside world and look inward. Inspired by the musical themes of Valdivias’ album, Measure the Silence, these sessions serve as a creative "map" for navigating unspoken truths, memories, and the masks we learn to wear.

The workshops are designed to be immersive, featuring live music from Alex and Maya to guide the creative process. Participants will engage with specific conceptual themes at one or both scheduled sessions at the Center for Creativity (CFC):

Thursday, February 12 (6:30–8:30 PM): Focusing on the “moment of silence and growth.”

• Saturday, February 21 (3–5 PM): Exploring the interplay of “shadow and light.”

Beyond simple craft, these workshops are a core component of Fuse Theatre’s Community Connections program, which uses theatre and art as a catalyst for dialogue and learning. The masks created by community members are not merely static art; they will be integrated into live performance pieces. Select masks will be featured at the Measure the Silence Album release party on March 13, 2026 at Little Green, a Plant Bar, to create a visual story during the performance by Alex and Maya.

This journey culminates in devising workshops in March and April, where the community will use the masks and shared experiences to build a final Community Performance, Growing in the Silence, featuring the music of Alex Valdivia scheduled for May 2026. By participating, you contribute to a project that explores the “strange beauty in finally letting the quiet speak.”
