About Mary Poppins

Narrator and jack-of-all-trades, Bert, introduces us to the troubled Banks family of No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane in 1910 England. Mr. Banks is preoccupied with his work at the bank, and Mrs. Banks, a former actress, oversees the household as best she can. Bad-tempered young Jane and her mischievous little brother Michael are difficult to handle and have just sent their last nanny packing.

The self-described “adorable” children write an ad to find the perfect new nanny, but George Banks, feeling quite differently about the characteristics that make a good nanny, tears up their ad and throws it in the fireplace. Moments later, Mary Poppins appears, the children’s advertisement in hand, ready to take charge.

With Bert’s help, Mary leads the rambunctious children on magical adventures, introduces them to intriguing characters, and, with patience, humor, common sense, and an abundance of song and dance, teaches them, and eventually their parents, how to value each other again. Everyone can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it”.

Participating in theater is one of the most beneficial experiences that a high school student can have.  Skills such as self-confidence, imagination, empathy, tolerance, collaboration, and communication are developed.  For a teenager, theater can provide an outlet to be creative, to escape, to enhance their well-being and to entertain the people who want to have their well-being entertained in some way. Grafton High School and the community of Grafton takes great pride in its theater program. We want to uphold the strong tradition and give our students and our community the most professional and memorable experiences possible.
