About Hairspray

Hairspray: The Revolution Will Be Televised

In the neon-soaked streets of 1962 Baltimore, Tracy Turnblad isn't just a girl with big hair—she’s a girl with a massive vision for a more inclusive world. When the bubbly, plus-sized dreamer defies the odds to land a spot on the city’s hottest teen dance program, The Corny Collins Show, she realizes that being a star means nothing if half the city is locked out of the studio.

What begins as a personal quest for the spotlight quickly evolves into a high-stakes grassroots movement. Tracy swaps her pursuit of local fame for a fight against the status quo, teaming up with a vibrant community of activists to dismantle the show’s rigid racial segregation. Through infectious energy and soul-stirring rhythm, Hairspray is a vibrant celebration of unity in action, proving that progress is a dance—and it’s one we have to do together.
