About Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood

Robin Hood, the famous outlaw of Sherwood forest and champion of the poor, has been taken into custody and meets us at the gallows, sentenced to hang by the neck until dead.  Before we see whether a daring rescue is attempted or he meets a tragic fate we are taken back in time.  As a teenager Robin has acquired a reputation for carousing, flirting, and being generally self-involved.  He learns that his close friend and neighbor Marian is going away to study in Aquitaine for three years and that King Richard has summoned all the barons, including Robin’s father, to fight in the Crusades perhaps never to return.  In Richard’s absence England has been placed under the rule of the King’s regent, Longchamp.

In his isolation, Robin turns heavily to drink until he meets Deorwynn, a starving peasant girl desperate for help.  Her father, Much the Miller has been sentenced by Sir Guy of Gisborne and the Sheriff of Nottingham for killing one of the king’s deer in an attempt to feed his family and be able to pay the ever-increasing taxes.  Through Deorwynn’s insistence and pleading Robin accompanies her where he witnesses Much’s hands about to be cut off by Sir Guy and the Sheriff.  Though ignorant and intoxicated, our burgeoning hero intervenes and through his relationship with Deorwynn he learns about the oppression and injustice facing the lower classes.

Robin sets out to combat injustice wherever he finds it and the people are drawn to him, but Sir Guy and the upper classes swear to take revenge.  Marian returns from Acquitaine and is sent by Prince John and the court to try to talk sense into Robin.  She is engaged to Sir Guy and cannot fathom why her childhood friend chooses to spend time with thieves and vagabonds.  The truth of the situation becomes clear when Sir Guy sets fire to a building filled with children and innocent families, Prince John announces that he has had the King’s regent assassinated so he can assume control of England, and Marian and Robin must work together to liberate their people.

Dexter Drama Club

With approaching 250 students who participate annually, the Dexter High School Drama program is one of the largest clubs in the district. The club sponsors 4 productions a year: a fall show, the Dexter Drama Directing "3D" Series, a winter musical complete with a student pit orchestra, and a spring play all now at Dexter High School Center for Performing Arts! All shows are cast and crewed by students, an aspect we are very proud of here in Dexter. Our Improv Troop, Off-Q, also hosts 5 performances throughout the year!
