Cresco Theatre and Opera House

Built in 1914, opening to the public in February of 1915 this landmark has stood the test of time in Cresco for the last 110 years. Starting with Vaudeville and silent movies, the stage has rarely been silent as it easily transformed into talkies and many live performances. We are blessed with a fantastic community theatre that has kept a rich tradition of plays and musicals on the stage. Movies of all genres have played for generations, first on reel to reel. And more recently from hard drives on a digital project fundraised by the community this amazing building sits in.

Live shows filled with entertainers of every kind continue to grace this stage from Simon Estes, an acclaimed baritone, Lori Line, a pianist and vocalist, Tonic Solfa, The Whitesidewalls, illusionists, comedians, and so much more. The theatre has rung with applause and laughter for every type of entertainment.

Commission members, community members, city council representatives and volunteers of all kind have pitched in to clean and make necessary repairs to the gem of Cresco. Grants have been secured to retro fit the Marquee, help repair the East Wall, install a PA system, put new table and chairs in Champlin Hall and more.

The Cresco Theatre Commission would like to thank the Cresco community and surrounding areas for their continued support. Without the community, the theatre would not be as successful as it has been.  2024 marks 110 years as an active theatre and opera house and 10 years since the city and theatre commission have been running the theatre as a city owned an operated venue. We are humbled by the support you provide and are excited for all the potential that is to come.
