About 12 Angry Jurors

Locked in a room on the hottest day of the year, 12 jurors must decide the fate of a seemingly guilty inner-city teen, given the possible death penalty for murder. As the dozen try to reach a unanimous decision, And certain personalities conflict, one stands alone as tensions build. Follow juror 8, the first member that stands alone and questions certain elements of the case, and is willing to ensure the accused is found true rightful justice. Our version of this show challenges the traditional narrative of an all-male cast, featuring a more inclusive gendered cast. Explore the meaning of justice, how one’s personal biases can affect their deliberations, the classism and racism ever so present in the room, as the 12 jurors come to a final decision through thorough argument and discussion, in Cordova High School’s 12 Angry Jurors.

Cordova High School

After an absence of ten years, Cordova High School re-started their Drama program in 2014-2015. That year, CHS participated in the Globe Education program appearing at UC Davis with 11 other High and Jr High Schools. CHS Drama also made its first appearance in over a decade at the Lenaea festival. In 2016, CHS Drama opened the new Performing Arts Center on campus with its first full production, A Midsummer's Jersey. Twenty actors took the stage with the majority making their acting debut. That same year CHS Drama  made a second trip to Lenaea and took home a Gold award in acting for one of the students.

In the 2016-2017 school year, after only three years, CHS Drama mounted a full season. In the Fall we staged Neil Simon's, The Odd Couple (female version), attended Lenaea and the Spring Production, A Piece of my Heart.

Two seasons ago we produced A Christmas Carol, adding performances and breaking attendance records,

and produced our first musical in 20 years, Little shop of Horrors This production was Supported in part by a generous grant from The American Theatre Wing and was an incredible experience for everyone.

Last Season we produced The Curious Savage and Romeo and Juliet as well as out annual visit to Lenaea. We also spent four days in Ashland at the Shakespeare Festival and attended a performance of Hamilton in SF. If that weren't busy enough, we hosted a Masters Workshop and concert featuring TV and Broadway Performer Ciara Renee

Right before Covid shut our schools down, CHS Drama was one of the first schools in the Country to perform the play PUFFS. It was performed to sold out houses every night. We were heading in to tech week for Matilda the musical when schools closed. Last year, while dealing with COVID, we recorded a radio version of It's a Wonderful Life and did our first Live Stream of the play, The Night I died at the Palace Theatre. Covid could not stop CHS Drama from doing what we love.
