About The Tragedy of King Saul

Saul was the chosen one—the first king of Israel—but after disobedience in the face of his God, another was selected. Now separated from the Spirit of the Lord, Saul listens to other voices as he strives with all his might to keep his throne. But when even his children Jonathan and Michal believe David to now be the rightful heir, what will saving his kingdom from God’s new chosen one cost him? His children? His sanity? Perhaps even his very soul?

Originally penned in 1782 by Vittorio Alfieri, The Tragedy of King Saul follows Saul’s descent into madness as God prepares David to take the throne and bring Israel back into right relationship with Him. Director Jeremiah Price’s adaptation of the script brings a “Greek Chorus” element to the show, featuring original music from local composer Devin Desmond, and utilizes hymns and passages from 1 Samuel.
