About Gospel Roots: A Black History Month Celebration
"Gospel Roots" is a powerful Black History Month concert celebrating the Black community's rich cultural heritage, history, and resilience through music and song. The concert features uplifting gospel performances by the 60-voice Community Gospel Choir, showcasing both traditional and contemporary gospel music honoring the struggles and triumphs of Black Americans throughout history.
"Gospel Roots" commemorates Black history and celebrates the enduring power of music as a tool for bringing together our community.
This concert is free, but we are asking you to reserve your general admission seat and donate what you can per seat. It costs approximately $5,000 to put on one of our concerts, and we need your support to keep presenting this great music as a gift to the community.
Community Gospel Choir of St. Louis
Through our spirited interpretation of the rich tradition of African-American Gospel music we are working to:
- Break down racial, cultural, and economic barriers in the St. Louis community
- Model community and reconciliation
- Perform to the highest musical standards to further knowledge and appreciation of traditional spirituals and contemporary Gospel music
- Be a gift to the entire community through regular public concerts and participation in community events
Our goal is to show diverse audiences how much they have in common: To get them singing; to get them talking; to increase their understanding of themselves and each other; and, most of all, to bring healing to a metropolitan area whose divisions still run deep.
