About The Sound of Music

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Cherokee Community Theater

Cherokee Community Theater is a small, all volunteer local theater doing big things in rural northwest Iowa since 1959! Our typical season consists of a fall show and a spring show, capped off with a summer musical in June. A live pit orchestra is the standard for our musical productions. We also support a vibrant children's theater program that introduces youth to the wonders of theater through a summer theater camp and major children's theater productions. We have engaged the world renown Flying by Foy out of Las Vegas to execute flying effects for a number of shows over the years, and have enhanced our technology resources with projection capabilities and LED lighting effects. We have been producing quality, home-grown theater for over six decades. Come and join us for the magic!
