About The Drowsy Chaperone

The Drowsy Chaperone opened on Broadway May 1, 2006, and went on to win 6 Tony Awards, including Best Original Score, and Best Book for a Musical--this alone tells us that the story is wonderful and the music is award winning!  Billed as "A Musical within a Comedy" the audience is treated to a roller coaster of merriment and delight!  The story, basically, is one of a man who loves old Broadway musicals, and spends his free-time listening to them on his LP Vinyls on his phonograph.  When he is feeling 'blue' and wants to be perked up, he puts on his favorite musical of all time, the 1928 Hit The Drowsy Chaperone...and that's when  the magic starts, because, as his record plays, the show magically comes to life around him.  This show has all the trappings of an early Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movie musical, complete with mixed-up love interests, inept gangsters, a Latin-lover, and even a wedding on an airplane as it flies down to Rio!
