About Miscast: Twisted Broadway, Cabaret & More!

Jack & the Beanstalk returns to the Brush Creek stage!

The basic outline of the story, of course, is well known – it's been around hundreds of years!

The play is based on the English Fairy Tale that appeared as The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean in 1734 and as The History of Jack and the Bean-Stalk, by Benjamin Tabart, in 1807. The story’s roots in European folklore likely reach back nearly five millennia, however.

Although at times the story is presented as a “message” tale, complete with one or more “morals of the story,” Brush Creek's play is is best viewed as a traditional farce, a humorous tale written with no real purpose beyond the enjoyment of those involved, whether the actors, the audience, or a reader. The actors are having a great time, and you should enjoy yourself as well!

You will see Jack, his mother, the Peddler, and the Giant, of course. But you will also see mysterious fairies, a princess, and the giant’s wife – as well as three helpful gnomes who help Jack on his adventures (although he often doubts that they are quite as helpful as they believe they are). Come, join the adventure, and enjoy the ride!
