Director
Lowell WilliamsLowell Williams was born in Louisville, KY in 1944. He graduated
as the first and only African American in his class from
Atherton High School. His mother was a member of Jack and Jill
of America Inc. and he was exposed to its socio-cultural
programs. He attended Kent State University where he received a
B.A. degree as a biology/psychology major and M.A. degree in
rehabilitation psychology.
He went on to become the first African-American to receive his
MFA in acting from Temple University. After pursuing a career in
the NY theater scene and winning an OBIE award along with his
fellow cast members from South Africa for the play POPPIE
NOGENA, he went on to work as a business representative for both
Actor’ Equity and Screen Actors Guild.
In 2001, he left NYC to take a teaching position in the theater
department at University of Miami and most recently Miami-Dade
College. He is retired from teaching at the collegiate level. He
works with theater students at Kropp Senior High school and at
the African American Arts and cultural center. He is one of four
fellows in the Miami Dade’s Arts and Cultural Department’s
playwright development program. He is focused on a new career in
playwriting.
