Stephanie Trudeau was honored at the ‘2023 Borrego Springs Film Festival’ for her film, “Becoming Chevala”.  She now is returning for a live performance on our stage!

Chavela Vargas, a trailblazer who constantly broke the mold, was edgy in the 1990s and is relevant today because her story pushes so many hot buttons: gender issues, gay rights, immigration, and Mexican culture.  

Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar called her “a volcano”.

“Becoming Chavela” tells an important queer story and herstory for all women.

 Chavela Vargas, una pionera que constantemente rompió el molde, estaba importante en la década de 1990 y es relevante hoy en día porque su historia empuja muchos temas importantes: cuestiones de género, derechos de los homosexuales, inmigración y cultura mexicana.
