About Legally Blonde The Musical
Legally Blonde is a 2007 musical with music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin and book by Heather Hach. The story is based on the novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name. It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. She discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others, and successfully defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. Throughout the show, no one has faith in Elle Woods, but she manages to surprise them when she defies expectations while staying true to herself.
Legally Blonde premiered in pre-Broadway tryouts in San Francisco, California. In April 2007 the show moved to Broadway, opening to mixed reviews and disappointing sales. Jerry Mitchell directed and choreographed. The original cast starred Laura Bell Bundy as Elle, Christian Borle as Emmett and Richard H. Blake as Warner. It received seven Tony nominations and ten Drama Desk nominations but did not win any. The West End production opened in January 2010 at the Savoy Theatre. The West End production was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards and won three, including the Best New Musical award.

CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF THEATER AT TECH!

In the year 2000, Bucks County Technical High School opened its doors as the county’s first comprehensive technical high school. Our mission was to provide students wishing to pursue technical training with a more well-rounded, complete high school experience.
As one of the many components of such an experience, BCTHS DRAMA was established. The “Drama Club” that year put on its very first musical— ”You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” on an improvised stage in an improvised theater— the lobby. The show was a success and “Theater at Tech” was born. The program has grown and flourished since in its mission to provide theater and performing arts experience for students at Bucks County Technical High School. This success was all in spite of not having a formal space to perform.
In 2007, construction began on a 600-seat auditorium at BCTHS. Completed in 2008, BCTHS DRAMA finally had a permanent home, and students of BCTHS took to their new stage in grand style. It has been a great progression over the years, and BCTHS DRAMA is proud to continue to present quality theater to the community and students of lower Bucks County.
