Acoustic Night with Jim Spence Performers

Jim Spence (Vocalist/Guitarist)
Jim Spence started playing guitar when he was seven years old. His dad was taking guitar lessons and began teaching Jim what he was learning. The music of the day was folk music with two of the most popular groups being The Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary. This music was perfect for learning guitar and little Jimmy took right to it. He and his parents and sisters would often sing songs while traveling in the car and they all enjoyed harmonizing together. As the years passed and other new artists emerged, such as James Taylor and Simon and Garfunkel, Jim began to learn more songs and more techniques on the guitar. Eventually he began learning fingerstyle picking patterns and fell in love with the stylings of a Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, among others. He met his eventual mentor, Gamble Rogers when he was in high school. Gamble was a wonderful player and storyteller. When he would come through the Orlando area, he would kindly pass on his techniques and his music to his young protégé when they were able to get together. Jim has a sort of easy listening style. He has original tunes and he loves to arrange songs for the instrumental finger style. Whether he plays an older standard or an original song, you will enjoy his love for music.
