Founder and Director
Jeffrey StockerJeffrey Stocker is the Founder and Director of
American Readers Theatre, a 501(3)c not-for-
profit arts organization. In 1978, he created a
unique audition "cold-reading" acting technique
for both stage and film. As a professional
director he has directed over 100 stage
productions and readings in NYC. He has collaborated with award-
winning playwrights Edward Albee and Christopher Durang. Jeffrey
Stocker has also been on the teaching faculty of the Joffrey Ballet
School in NYC, the Portland Festival Ballet Studio in Oregon, and the
Magnus Midwest Summer Dance Intensive, where he created an
acting program called ACTING FOR THE DANCER. As the prestigious
National Arts Club in NYC, Mr. Stocker served for many years as the
Chair of the Theatre Drama Committee. Currently, Jeffrey Stocker is
the Artistic Director for the Presby Players in Port Jervis, New York, the
oldest community theater in New York State. He continues to teach
acting and direct productions.
Musical Director
Sandy McAleer StalterSandy is the Musical Director and pianist for ART, Presby Players, and a number of other regional groups, including the Delaware Valley High School Drama Club. Sandy is also a singer and actress, and teaches private voice lessons in the Milford PA area. Sandy has performed as a singer, pianist and
actress on stages all across the country, from
Las Vegas to New York City, and in many a
recording studio; if you are over the age of 40,
you may have heard her singing some of your
favorite jingles! Recent roles: Nanny Andrews
in Mary Poppins; Cinderella's Stepmother in Into the Woods; Mrs.
Pennywise in Urinetown; Dottie Otley in Noises Off!; Muriel Eubanks
in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act.
Choreographer
Melissa ThomasMelissa hails from New York City where she received her professional training, including her study with Robert Tucker of the American Dance Machine. She has performed in the dinner theatre, cabaret, and summer stock circuits. Melissa has choreographed nmerous musicals in the area including Port Jervis High School, Delaware Valley High School, City Stage and Presby Players. She currently teaches advanced tap and theatre jazz, and was the recipient of the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Choreography.
