About A New Brain

William Finn's semi-autobiographical musical “A New Brain” tells the story of Gordon Schwinn, a young composer whose existential crisis is suddenly interrupted by a medical emergency. While facing brain surgery in the morning, Gordon's children's TV show boss demands yet another new song that night, causing Gordon to challenge what and whom he values in life. Themes of mortality, legacy, family, love, and frogs swirl around Gordon in this 90-minute show that wryly balances emotional depth with quirky, sardonic humor, all set to a score whose rich harmonies match the show's life-affirming story.

Aggregate Theatre Company

Aggregate was created in 2017 to develop a stronger theatregoing presence among youth and young professionals in the Triangle area.  Built by local artists, Aggregate makes an effort to hire top-notch North Carolina artists in order to reinvest in the arts community that has made Aggregate possible.  Aggregate’s productions have been eclectic in nature, including seven world premieres, varying from traditional stage plays (The Stonewater Rapture, My Name Is Asher Lev) to immersive workshop performances (Vanya in Los Feliz) to interactive experiences (In Good Taste: Shakespeare at Brewery Bhavana) and children’s productions (2018 Children’s Theatre Series). In addition to theatrical productions, Aggregate also has produced multiple audio productions (Stuck Stories and Gazellephant) and has a very active theatre education branch that goes into schools and other public and private organizations to share the joy and inspiration of theatre through residencies and in-school performances (Gazellephant, The Midsummer Experience, HamLit). Aggregate partners with The Alli Mae Carnes Studio for camps, classes, and student productions to offer theatrical training for youth throughout the year.
