About Matilda the Musical

Every child is born a miracle, or at least that is what their parents tell them. However, some may not be as lucky as to receive the best relatives or the simplest life. The youngest child of the Wormwood family, Matilda Wormwood, was born a miracle, but her parents see her as nothing more than a rug to wipe their shoes on. Matilda’s gift of being sharp-witted leads her to being sent to Crunchem Hall, under the spiteful eyes of Miss Trunchbull. As the dark clouds gloom over the school, the glimmering Miss Honey tries to educate and care for the children with a sense of awareness. She helps Matilda learn what true education is, but each move that they make is seen by the evil Miss Trunchbull. Nobody dares to speak against the Trunchbull, but once each child realizes they’re living in a jail. Once they realize the misery they’re living they realize that it is time to revolt… Will the kids gain their freedom if they defeat the Trunchbull?

MATILDA THE MUSICAL is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI). All authorized production materials are also provided by MTI. www.mtishows.com

ACHS Theatre Arts

ACHS Theatre Arts is a passionate group of students in Drama 1, 2, Advanced Drama, Stagecraft, and Musical Theatre. We are proud to present two full-length shows every year as well as "Winter One-Acts" in January. Theatre is unique in that it is the most authentic project-based learning possible. Students collaborate to bring a show to life and then present it to friends, peers, and community members.

We encourage all ACHS students to join the Theater Arts department by taking one of our entry-level classes, Drama 1 or Stagecraft, or auditioning for Advanced Drama and Musical Theatre, or joining the American Canyon Drama Club. There are many opportunities to participate in theatre, either onstage or behind the scenes. Experience is not required! All are welcome to experience the spirit, dedication, and talent of American Canyon High School's theatre family.

Our goal this year is to DARE TO DREAM. We hope you will join us on our learning journey as we delve into classics, contemporary, and playwriting skills. You may be surprised to discover that you actually enjoy it!

Your support is vital to our Theatre Arts family so we can continue to offer high-quality productions and learning year after year. We urge you to attend as many performances as possible and support our fundraising activities as well.
