About Searching For Galileo's Daughter

SEARCHING FOR GALILEO’S DAUGHTER
by Jessica Dickey
directed by Barbara Guertin

March 14-23, 2025

Just in time for Women's History Month, 4th Wall brings the story of a playwright, unsettled by a personal crisis, who flees to Florence to study the letters between Galileo and his eldest daughter Maria Celeste, whom he has taught to transcribe his work. Caught up in the threats against her father, Maria must abandon her work and join a convent. The writer’s discovery of Maria’s strength and tenacity inspires her own pursuit of purpose. Alternating between past and present, this play is a personal examination of faith, forgiveness, and the cost of seeking and speaking truth. Starring Robbin Joyce, Jerry Bisantz and Sandy Clancy.

4th Wall Stage Company

The Mission of the 4th Wall Stage Company is to stage theatrical productions which are of enduring interest that inspire, challenge, and engage our audiences, while recognizing the culturally-diverse nature of our community by producing plays which speak to issues which touch our lives.

4 Classics – Committed to bringing you classic theater – O’Neill, Williams, Shepard and Chekov – we will provide the main course. We have never strayed from bringing you classic theater – From Uncle Vanya to True West, we bring tried and true classics (perhaps with a twist), and focus on bringing the playwrights’ message through our extraordinary company talents.

4 Community – To collaborate and partner with other non-profits to share resources and build a stronger cultural bond by incorporating theatrical components. Our partners have included Museum of Worcester, Worcester Art Museum, Ecotarium, Preservation Worcester, Mechanics Hall, Alternatives, The Hibernian Club, New Rep, Image Theater, Zero Point Theater, Trinity Lutheran Church, Hanover Theater and the Sprinkler Factory.

4 Education – Strong partnerships with Worcester County Universities, Colleges, High Schools, and organizations to incorporate learning opportunities that are theater-based – from internships to theater camp. Our partners have included Fitchburg State University (our on-going Internship Program), Quinsigamond Community College, Holy Cross College, Assumption University, Worcester Public Schools and the Jewish Community Center.

4 Experimental – Pushing the envelope with new and controversial works to illuminate, enlighten and excite the live theater experience. We continue to do readings and explore new topics which might be unusual or uncomfortable, but always entertaining. Our partners at Image Theater of Lowell, Forge Theater Lab of FSU, and New Rep have been great catalysts.

We are a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization and our goals include outreach to other artists, cultural organizations, and educational institutions throughout Massachusetts while concentrating around our home base in Central Massachusetts.

Currently, our performances are mainly being staged at the Museum of Worcester in Worcester, MA, less than an hour from the center of Boston, Hartford or Providence. We also perform at other venues around Worcester County.  Check our website for the location of our next show. www.4thwallstagecompany.org
