About the MVHS Drama Club

Welcome to the Minisink Valley High School Drama Club website!

Our Minisink Valley High School Drama Club is a year long club. We typically put on two large productions each year.  The Fall season runs from September through October and features a play. The Spring season runs from January through March and features a full length musical.

Both productions are audition based for cast members: The audition process typically includes some kind of speaking, singing, and dancing portion based on the needs of the show. Students audition for each production separately.

We also hold interviews for each production for students who are more interested in the behind the scenes action.

Our Crews include: Tech Crew members run our stage lights, spot lights, microphones, and cameras: Set/Stage Crew members build, decorate, paint, create, and move the set pieces and props during performances; and the Promo Crew helps with the advertising, organizes and runs our lobby, concession, and box office.

The Spring Musical does feature a live pit orchestra full of student musicians. Auditions are typically held in December for these spots.

High School Students have the opportunity to interview for leadership positions for the Intermediate Show. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, High schoolers selected will be responsible for creating the vision, running rehearsals, and preparing the Intermediate students for their Musical Production. The Teacher directors Mentor and oversee what the High Schools are doing but for the most part the High School Production team has complete creative control. This is a hands on opportunity to work with other students in the district and gain knowledge in what it takes to make a production happen. Positions include, Director, music director, choreographer, costuming, house, set, and tech crew.

For the past 3 years the HS Drama Club has been able to attend the NYSTEA Student Conference. This happens in January every year -- it is a 3 day workshop experience where the students attending have the opportunity to work with professionals in the Musical Theater world. Workshops include singing, tap dancing, acting, costuming, set design, community building, and SO MUCH MORE. This is something to look forward to as an upperclassmen since the organization only allows 10th, 11th, and 12th graders to attend.

The MVHS Drama Club has also been invited to perform at the Galleria Mall by the Orange County Arts Council for their Arts Build Confidence Showcase. Getting out into the community is an important role of the theater culture so this is a tradition we hope to continue in the future.
