My name is Rachel Noel Sanders, aka Know EL.

I create and collaborate because I find true joy in the process and in the witnessing of provocative beauty. I own an explosive passion for all artistic endeavors, whether they be my own or those of other artists around me. I have been collaborating and performing locally in my communities since childhood, and now do so tucked inside the beautiful mountain of Humboldt County as a solo dance artist, singer, model, and community organizer.

In December 2018, I launched my personal brand Know EL Creates, a multidisciplinary artistic brand that encompasses all the professional and “amateur” creative work I do, including theatre, dance, music, modeling, photography, mixed media, writing, filmmaking, fashion styling, designing, editing, and collaborative/ collective works. I offer services in a freelance format, with a few contract positions and a lot of gigs and bookings, though much of what I do is collaborative and simply for the love of it, though since launching I have been taking baby steps towards approaching my artistic pursuits as a professional.

Last year, in the summer of 2020, I started an artists’ collective for creatives of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and Mixed Heritage in Humboldt County, where I’ve been living for the past 5 years and where only 1 out of every 4 people is a citizen of color. Our first ongoing project is a dance show called Only Skin Deep, the goal of which is to allow the artists involved to express themselves through movement in full recognition of everything they are as people, beyond what stereotypes society might lend us based on our skin colors. The first two editions of our show were presented online as a series of pre- recorded performances, and we are really excited to present the third as our first in- person performance on September 4th, 2021!!
