Junior University of San Bernardino began humbly in 1962 as a backyard summer activity hosted by Robert and Barbara Henley, drawing an audience of 150 for its inaugural show. By 1965, the Henleys partnered with William and Patricia Dixon to officially incorporate as a non-profit, finding a longtime home at the Roosevelt Bowl in Perris Hill Park. In 2017, the organization entered a new era, moving its productions to a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center in San Bernardino.
Today, Junior University remains dedicated to delivering premier family entertainment to the Inland Empire while offering young people an exciting, educational theatrical experience. While participation requires a meaningful investment of time and energy, often engaging the entire family, the rewards are immense. It serves as a powerful stepping stone for those pursuing professional or community theater, all while fostering lifelong friendships.
