CCT History

December 14, 1958 was the birth of Crookston Community Theater. About 20 people met to organize a community theater. The founders wanted it to be theater for all people. CCT was organized as a non-profit and is governed by its Articles of Incorporation.

They began with four divisions:

Radio Theater
Stage Theater
Children's Theater
Musical Theater

Membership dues were $2.50 per year and a patron membership was $10.00 per year.

The first production was held on March 20-21, 1959. "Gay Nineties Musical Revue" The first theater was at the old McKinley School. This was to be a permanent home with plans to make this a civic center for the community where many events could take place. This did not work out and CCT became inactive until 1969 when it was revived.

The first production, "I'm Herbert", was a dinner theater held at The Upper Deck in Crookston at $5.00 a ticket.

Crookston Community Theater has been going strong since then. We do two productions per year plus a children's theater performance and workshop each summer. We also often collaborate with Sod House Theater from St. Anthony MN.

CCT Locations

We have had over eleven homes for our costumes and props. We now own a building where we store these.

We perform wherever we can find a space available. Current homes are Kiehle Auditorium on the UMC Campus, Crookston High School Auditorium, Highland Elementary, Golden Link Senior Center, and dinner theaters at Crookston Inn or the Eagles Lodge in Crookston.
