DEBATE

PREAMBLE – Believing that creditable student effort and achievement should be encouraged and rewarded, and seeking to cultivate the ideas of service and proper leadership in our citizens of tomorrow, We, The Titans of Talk, officially establish this club to pursue the excellence of oration, theatrics and rhetoric. The purpose of the Borger High School Speech and Debate Club is twofold:

1) to promote life skills such as higher order thinking skills, public speaking skills, research skills, analysis and performance of literature, knowledge of current events, and team work;

2) it is also our intent to represent Borger High School in a way that would bring positive recognition and respect to our program and school.

The tools that debate offers are the very skills which empower young people to participate actively in an open society. We are a small, energized, and dedicated group of students. Borger High School has the potential, pride, and perseverance to compete and stand strong in Academic endeavors. Schools with a history with speech and debate often refer to the campus-wide changes they see after starting a team as the “speech and debate effect.” Administrators report that offering a program improved overall classroom performance, increased engagement in the classroom, increased school pride, and decreased negative student behavior. By supporting speech and debate at your school, you can positively influence student outcomes across the board.
