Be Drama: Berkley Schools Drama Department
BIG NEWS!
We're so excited for the soon-to-be Performing Arts Center at Berkley High School, but unfortunately, it won't be ready for our use in time for our upcoming production of Hadestown: Teen Edition by Anais Mitchell. So to ensure that the production is special, we're moving it down Woodward to Detroit's historic Bonstelle Playhouse!

The Bonstelle Playhouse
The Bonstelle Playhouse is the former home of the Wayne State University Theatre Department. Restored to its original grandeur, this gorgeous hall will be home to our students for the week of our show. They'll get to rehearse and perform, experiencing the stage brought to life throughout it's century-long history. Originally built in 1902 by architect Albert Kahn as Temple Beth El, the synagogue transformed in the 1920s into one of Detroit’s most celebrated performance venues. Today, its historic heart still resonates with every celebration and special event, creating unforgettable experiences for audiences and guests alike. Nothing can take the place of our home stage, undergoing necessary updates thanks to Berkley voters, but if we can't do our show at home, this is a pretty impressive solution!

Berkley Performing Arts Center Renovations continue …

We are still excitedly looking forward to the renovations and upgrades coming to our home stage. Upon completion our Performing Arts Center will have our Sound and Light Booth on the first floor, an addition to the lobby making a more comfortable area to wait for performances to begin, renovated dressing rooms for our performers, a new second floor mezzanine in our Scene Shop, updated technology throughout and so much more. We'll also benefit from the additional space provided by our new Black Box Theater, giving the Berkley High School Choirs a home with the rest of our performing arts programs where they belong and the Drama Department another avenue to rehearse, perform, and learn about the art of Theatre.

Stay tuned for updates and openings for the Performing Arts Center at Berkley High School!
