The original Ardmore Little Theatre came into existence about 1928, but faded away when the World War II interrupted normal life in Oklahoma. In the early 1950's, a drama group began meeting at the Parish House of St. Phillips' Episcopal Church. By 1955, the group had organized as the Ardmore Little Theatre Guild and presented its first play, Kind Lady, at the Ardmore High School auditorium.

In 1956, the performance venue relocated to the Gilbert Building (which is now the Ardmoreite Building) which had a large auditorium. After the newspaper moved into that space in 1966, ALT performances were staged in the Show Barn at the Carter County Fairgrounds for a few years.

When the Goddard Arts Center was completed in 1970, Ardmore Little Theatre became the anchor tenant and has present more than 250 productions on the Goddard Stage.
