About Annie Jr.

Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie JR. features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Message from the President:

Dear Supporting Patron:

In 2024 Stage Door Productions celebrates its 25th season of bringing theater to all, and you can take a lot of credit in making that happen. Your financial and attendance support helps the organization to fulfil its goals every day.  We have some exciting things scheduled to help celebrate our Silver Anniversary, including some blast from the pasts and some new events to help ring in the excitement we all feel.  We hope you will join us for all our productions and events.

We want to take a moment to share some news with you as well, so you can see how you and other like you who have supported the Arts have been successful.  It was just a few years ago we reached out to you with open hands, having been hit hard by the side effects of social distancing.  You came to our rescue and helped keep us alive. Individual donations and the support of our primary benefactor (Manfredi Family Insurance – Springfield Va) ensured that Stage Door could keep moving forward and complete its mission to bring the theater to all.

In 2020 we partnered with the Allstate Community Theater – a foundation of the Manfredi Insurance Group agencies, along the east coast.  This locally based insurance agency has provided over $250,000 in development support over the last few years. The result is a 6,000 square foot theater, which is managed by Stage Door but used by several Arts groups including, The Fredericksburg Improv Team, The Fredericksburg Institute for the Performing Arts (providing theatrical workshops for all ages); and other theater groups.

The theater has a 40-foot wide 1,000 square foot main stage, is in the process of building a Children’s Workshop Stage and a Dance Studio, and seats over two hundred patrons in a multi-level auditorium.  The professional lighting and sound systems as well as the stage sets and rotating scenery bring all the productions to life, in a three-dimensional way.  Add to all that the amazing green room, dressing rooms and workshops created for our cast and crews, our volunteers are living a wonderful life at this little community theater.

But it is important to note that the funding provided by Manfredi Insurance was all about the future, not the current.  Paying rent and utilities and the cost to secure production rights, and development expenses all came from ticket sales and the support of our patrons and advertisers – people like you.

In the last year we have broken so many records, thanks to your attendance and support.  Our annual shadow casting of Rocky Horror Picture Show as well as A Christmas Carol, and then again for our most recent production of Clue Live On-stage have all been for the most part to Sold-Out Audiences. Thank you for that.

We want to close out this message by letting you know that as successful as you have made us, we still have two significant needs – somewhat caused by our success – two needs that we are certain you can and will help with, because you have always supported our cause.

First, we want to have more advertisers, so as t help spread our word via marketing budgets that advertising income pays for.  If you or a friend own a business, please send us an email, and we can show you how for little or NO COST we can partner for success.

Second, we need VOLUNTEERS. We have a twelve-member board and a committer support team of about 25 regular folks.  But we desperately need individuals to help with Concession Sales or as Ushers. A regular team of people doing these same jobs each production would save us so much time on retraining and help our other volunteers complete tasks like production build-out, design, painting and marketing.

Got time?  Come be a part of our winning team.  Thank you again for all that you have and will continue to do to make Stage Door and the Arts in our community thrive.
