About Little Shop of Horrors

This is Pen's first student-directed production in over three years! Little Shop of Horrors is based off of the 1960 horror comedy film of the same name. The story follows a meek flower shop assistant named Seymour who pines for his coworker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. Seymour must come up with more bodies to feed the increasingly bloodthirsty plant and maintain his newfound fame.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School Drama Department

PENINSULA DRAMA is an award-winning co-curricular and extra-curricular high school theatre department. Students are able to take a progressive 4-year pathway of Drama classes where they develop their confidence and collaboration skills in performance centered courses. Each classes progresses through a regimen that mixes improvisation, student-written and published performances while learning about different performance styles. A survey of the history of theatre from the Greeks up to Contemporary Artists provides the backbone for most of our performance assignments. Additionally, students receive an education in all of the technical and design elements that make a production robust.

WE TRAVEL. Over the years our department has made many trips to New York City to sightsee and attend Broadway productions. In Summer of 2022, we will be making our third journey to EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND where our students will be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

WE COMPETE. Each year members of our drama classes participate (and earn trophies) through both the DTASC and CETA Theatre Festivals. In addition, we have been recognized by California Youth in Theatre and the Jerry Herman Awards.

WE PERFORM. Our department produces between 3 and 6 extra-curricular productions each year. Usually at least one musical and at least two plays. Anyone in the school can be involved in our plays either on stage or behind the scenes. Members of the Drama Club have their own student-directed production each year as well as other performance opportunities. Or you can join our COMEDY SPORTZ High School League team, and perform competitive improv comedy against schools all over Southern California.
