Please donate - and here's why:
As with many performing arts companies, the pandemic was not easy on our business, but with the help of a very creative faculty and staff, we survived - and eventually thrived! This year we moved from our previous humble “Bath and Body Works-turned into Reel Kids space”, to a 7,000 square feet state-of-the-art Theater/Film/Video Education Center, not only broadening our horizon by offering the latest in sophisticated software, cameras, stage area, sound and lighting, but also expanding our student body and continuing our mission to serve and partner with the community at large when ever possible. We currently have more than 140 registered students; some local to Boulder, and some from as far as mountain cities such as Conifer and Castle Rock (more than two hours away). And, because our original location was in Superior, a large number of our student body hails from the Superior/Louisville area, the epicenter of the recent heartbreaking Marshall fires.
My first simple thought to the parents: "Of course you can continue with our programs, you lost everything in the fires." But how? The answer - scholarship, scholarship, scholarship--left and right. I did the math: 24% of my entire student body lost their houses in the Marshall fire last December... 24% - simply unreal. And I knew that extra-curricular activities would be the first item to go as parents navigated the torrential task of insurance, disaster assistance, as well as the emotional toll of this heart-breaking disaster. I could not allow even one child to be pulled out of my programs, having to suffer yet another loss. I simply couldn't. I had to do something. So, in addition to opening up my massive costume room to donate clothing for any kids affected by the fires (donating anything the families wanted out of my theater), I started making a sheet of exactly what I was "comping" class-wise, and for whom. I was shocked to see the final number, and a bit sick to my stomach! In order for the students who lost their houses to finish their programs that started in the fall, including classes in technology, music, editing, writing, dance and theater, I gave out $20,150.00 in scholarships. That's a massive number, but there wasn't another option. This was the only thing to do.
How am I going to compensate for the immense hit this took on my business? By kindly and sincerely asking YOU to help us continue to provide scholarships to our current students affected by the fires so that they can enjoy the performing arts education they so crave, and need – especially now, in the safe, nurturing and loving place they all love… Reel Kids/Organic Theater.
NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL - THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR HELPING THE ARTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES!
