About Return to the Forbidden Planet

Return to the Forbidden Planet is a jukebox musical by Bob Carl- ton, and is loosely based off of Shakespear’s Tempest, and movie Return to the Forbidden Planet. The show features rock songs from the 50s and 60s, and multiple Shakespearean Easter eggs. When Captain Tempest and his crew set off on their space exploration, they do not expect anything to go wrong. However, when they come in contact with the evil Dr. Prospero, nothing can seem to go right. Meanwhile, Miranda, Dr. Prospero’s daughter, has fallen in love with the captain, and the captain has fallen in love with her. But Cookie, the cook for the spaceship has also fallen in love with Miranda. During this time, Dr. Prospero has taken a drug, which he calls the “X” factor, resulting in a series of unfortunate events. Throw in a robot on wheels, unrequited love, and a scary space monster, and you’ve got one groovy show! Will the ship inhabitants make it out of space alive? Find out in Return to the Forbidden Planet!
