About Only Skin Deep: DREAMING (is an art)

Only Skin Deep began as an idea in the summer of 2020 to curate a dance show specifically for movement artists in Humboldt County that are of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and Mixed Heritage. I wanted the show to be a pure expression of the unique selves who contribute and a generator of income for them as well. The first edition of our show took place in September of 2020, online. Our second edition, ReInvention, happened in conjunction with Cooperation Humboldt as part of their Artists Dismantling Capitalism educational event in February 2021. Our third edition, LOVING (is an art), was the first to be performed for an in- person audience as well as livestreamed online. Our fourth and fifth shows, CHILD and the shadow show, took place at Synapsis Collective for hybrid audiences. We're expanding venues for our sixth show DREAMING (is and art)!! I'm so excited to bring the energy and voices to both Arcata and Eureka communities.

This performance will explore the fascinating, intimidating, undeniable role of DREAMS in our lives.

Do you dream? What do you dream of? What do you hope for? What do you strive for? What haunts you? Are you dreaming or dreamless? What do our collective dreams look, smell, feel, sound, taste like? Is there value in chasing that which seems to be out of reach? We'll ask ourselves these and more questions during this amazing collaboration in community with Only Skin Deep artists.

We are a DreamMaker Project of The Ink People.
