About Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical based on a series of stories by Sholem aleichem which he wrote in Yiddish between 1894 and 1914 about Jewish life in Imperial Russia at the turn of the century. The story of Tevye and His Daughters (Tevye the Dairyman) centers on a milkman who attempts to maintain his Jewish religion and cultural traditions as outside influences and some very strong willed daughters task his patience and faith. With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof held the record for longest-running Broadway musical (surpassing 3,000 performances) for almost 10 years. Winning 9 Tony Awards, it spawned 5 Broadway revivals, a film adaptation, and has enjoyed endured International popularity.

Effingham High School

Effingham High School has been putting on productions since before their productions were even called productions. From small student written one acts through large scale musicals, Effingham has always had a huge heart for trying new things and exploring the wide world of the written word through lines and lyrics. Effingham DramaTICS put on two large scale productions each year, one being a fall play and the other being the spring musical, while also being a part of numerous area events.
