The Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School Dance Department is a vibrant and dynamic program serving between 160 to 180 dedicated young women and men each year. Open to all students, our department offers a comprehensive academic curriculum in dance, combining rigorous physical training with artistic exploration and cultural understanding.

Our program is led by the esteemed Michelle "Mimi" McDonald, who brings passion, professionalism, and real-world experience to every class. Students are placed into leveled technique courses—Dance 1, 2, 3, and 4—based on their skill, experience, and growth over time.

For those who demonstrate a deeper commitment to the art form, we offer Repertory I through IV, an advanced program where students are hand-selected or must audition to participate. These classes challenge students to elevate their performance quality and artistic expression through the study and performance of complex works and original choreography.

In addition to technique and performance, we believe in nurturing the whole artist. That’s why we offer Dance Production, an invaluable opportunity for students interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of the performing arts. These students take on essential roles such as stage management, lighting design, costuming, sound, and technical support—gaining practical skills that mirror those used in professional theater and production settings.

We are also proud to have an elite Dance Company, made up of our most passionate and talented dancers. Admission to the company is by audition or teacher selection only, and these students represent the highest level of artistic excellence at our school. They perform in school events, community functions, and regional festivals, showcasing the power of movement and storytelling through dance.
