Director's Note:

When I was young, The Wizard of Oz was televised annually. For most of my childhood, I viewed it on our black and white television and assumed that the movie was black and white. Several years (and a new T.V.) later, I was shocked when Munchkinland was suddenly in color!  We will try to create the same sense of wonder for you during our shows.

While researching this show, I read surprising fact. In 2005, one of the three original pairs of ruby slippers used in the 1939 film had been stolen from the Judy Garland Museum.  In 2018, an international news story broke, stating that the FBI had recovered the shoes missing for 13 years. Yes, this was international news! Why?  Because, the article stated, the shoes symbolized the “power of belief”, an inspiring universal theme.

Another theme that this story encompasses is “the power of friendship”. Throughout Dorothy’s “dream”, there are allusions to people in her life who help her as she travels through Oz. She is not alone. As Christians, we have the blessed assurance that we are never alone on our journey.  Through the darkest valleys, our Lord is with us, and He places people in our paths to walk beside us. When we face trials and realize that “we’re not in Kansas anymore”, we are blessed to have people in our lives who help us.

It was my pleasure to work with these fantastic kids and a supportive creative team.  We all hope that you enjoy this iconic musical as much as we have enjoyed presenting it!
