About Singular Sensations

Singular Sensations came about because we wanted to give a platform for all area children and teens to showcase their talents. We debated doing some kind of online production with auditions and rehearsals, but felt that this gave a performance/ presentation opportunity for more children. We are excited to see so many submissions from students who haven’t yet been involved in the CSDTheaters program. There are so many talented kids in Corvallis, we are very fortunate to live in a community like this!

CSDTheaters

Corvallis Theater at its best!

“CSD Theaters is not ‘high school theater’.
This is professional theater, done with high school students!”

Our motto is; ‘We don’t do high school theatre, we do professional theatre with high school students.’

It is very important to us that participants in the CSDTheaters program enjoy their participation, but also learn along the way. To that end, we have a full training program both in and out of the classroom. Our students learn performance, theatre history, set and lighting design, rigging, costuming, dramaturgy, production, basic stage combat and much more. In a non-quarantine environment, we produce one mainstage production a year that is only students in the cast and crew and one Community Collaboration Musical a year where the students work alongside Community artists, technicians and performers. It is a fantastic opportunity for the kids to learn on the job from experts in their field, but it is also a great opportunity for community adults to teach their craft and they usually leave our theatre having gotten as much as they gave. Our final production each year is entirely student produced. In the past we have done one-act festivals, 24 hour theatre, Improv Smackdown, Film projects, touring children’s theatre, original 10 minute plays etc. Every year it is different depending upon the students and what they want to show.

In addition to our active production calendar we also spend time mentoring kids and giving them opportunities to experience theatre and leadership in other settings. We do a weekend leadership retreat every year with 40+ kids, an annual Ashland trip, a Tony Awards catered dinner with formal dress, a summer performing arts camp and have paid technician opportunities for professional groups who rent our beautiful facility. We are completely self-supporting and offer scholarships to kids who can’t afford to participate in some of these extracurricular opportunities. Your support is what makes that happen. All donations go to our scholarship fund to make sure that all kids can participate.
